The Government of Kerala recognizes the crucial role of private forests in promoting a sustainable and ecologically balanced future. We are committed to supporting and incentivizing private forest ownership and management in the state.
Scheme for Incentivization of Tree Planting on Private Land: This program, launched in 2012, offers financial incentives to farmers and landowners who plant trees on their private land. The incentive amount varies based on the number of trees planted and the chosen species. By encouraging tree planting, we aim to increase forest cover, improve biodiversity and combat climate change.
Objectives of the Scheme:-
(a) To increase the area under tree cover.
(b) To mitigate the effects of global warming and climate change.
(c) To achieve timber self-sufficiency in the State.
(d) To enable the homesteads to supplement the existing farm returns and hedge against the possible fluctuation of the price of current crops.
(e) To promote tree farming as a secondary agrarian practice.
